Crypto Trading Fee Calculator

Total trading cost is entry and exit fees, any builder fee, slippage on both fills and funding while you hold, all charged on notional. Divide it by notional for the price move you need to break even, and by margin to see how much of your capital it takes at your leverage.

Enter the size, the fee on each side, slippage and how long you hold. Pick a preset to fill in a fee schedule, then edit anything. Prices and rates below are examples, not live quotes.

Worked example: what a $10,000 long costs on three fee setups

Each row is the same $10,000 long held 24 hours at 10x, with 2 bps of slippage on each side and the price flat. Only the fee schedule changes, so the gap between rows is the cost of the schedule itself.

Assumptions: taker fee on entry and exit; Hyperliquid base tier from the same table as the Hyperliquid calculator (snapshot 2026-10-20); 5 bps builder fee is an example value, the protocol maximum on perps is 0.1%; funding 0.00125% per hour is an example rate (0.01% per 8 hours spread over each hour); the LeverUp row uses the standard-tier fee of its public docs (caps as of 2026-10-19) and leaves holding and funding fees out because they are shown in its app; example as of 2026-10-20. How holding time changes the cost

Fees and slippage are paid once. Funding accrues every interval, so the longer you hold, the more of the total it becomes. A positive rate is a cost for the long and income for the short, which is why the short column is negative.

Assumptions: taker fees both sides, 2 bps slippage per side, no builder fee, constant funding rate, price flat; a negative break-even move for a short is the fall needed to cover costs, a positive one means funding income already exceeds costs and price can rise by that much first; example as of 2026-10-20. Slippage per side and what it costs at each leverage

Slippage is charged on both fills, so 2 bps per side is 4 bps for the round trip. The same dollar cost is a larger share of margin as leverage rises, because margin shrinks while notional does not.

Assumptions: taker fees both sides, price flat, no funding or builder fee; 1 bp = 0.01%; slippage is an input you estimate from the order book and order size, not a venue figure; example as of 2026-10-20. Full formulas and data dates: methodology.

How total trading cost is calculated

Every cost line is a rate times a notional. Entry fee = notional × entry fee %. Exit fee = exit notional × exit fee %, where exit notional is notional × (1 + price move). The builder fee and slippage apply to both fills, and funding = notional × rate × (holding hours ÷ interval hours), signed so that a positive rate costs a long and pays a short. The total is the sum of the five lines.

The break-even move is the price change at which the gross PnL equals that total. Because the exit costs scale with the exit price, the long case is (c + e) ÷ (1 − e) and the short case is −(c + e) ÷ (1 + e), with c the entry-side rate plus funding ÷ notional and e the exit-side rate. The break-even exit price is the entry price times one plus that move.

Leverage does not change the dollar cost, only its weight: the same $26 is 0.26% of a $10,000 notional but 2.6% of the $1,000 margin at 10x. That is why a cost that looks tiny in percent of notional can matter at 20x or 50x. To value a trade at a chosen exit instead, use the crypto profit calculator, which also has a break-even sell price.

Trading fee calculator: maker vs taker

A taker order removes liquidity and pays the higher fee; a maker order rests on the book and pays less, or earns a rebate at higher volume tiers. Choose maker or taker for each side separately, since many traders enter with a limit order and exit with a market order after a stop.

The Hyperliquid preset uses the base tier of the same volume table as the Hyperliquid calculator, where you can also apply volume tiers, HYPE staking and referral discounts and copy the result into the fee fields here. A negative fee percentage models a maker rebate.

Slippage calculator: the cost of crossing the book

Slippage is the gap between the price you expected and the price you got. It grows with order size relative to book depth and with volatility, and it is charged on entry and on exit. Enter basis points per side: 2 bps is $2 on every $10,000 filled.

There is no venue-wide number. Read the depth for your size, or place a small test order and compare the fill with the mid price. The slippage table above shows how a few extra basis points per side move the cost as a share of margin at different leverage.

Crypto fee calculator: builder and frontend fees

Some trading frontends add their own fee on top of the exchange fee. On Hyperliquid this is a builder fee, set by the frontend and capped by the protocol at 0.1% (10 bps) of notional on perps. It applies to each fill, so a 5 bps builder fee is 10 bps over a round trip, more than the whole exchange fee on a maker entry.

The “Hyperliquid + frontend builder fee” preset starts at an example 5 bps; replace it with the number your frontend shows. The LeverUp preset uses the standard-tier fee of its public docs, 0.03% to open and 0.03% to close, as quoted on our 1001x guide as of 2026-10-19. Its high-leverage tier, holding fees and funding work differently, so check the in-app fee preview.

Funding and holding time

Funding is paid between longs and shorts at every interval, hourly on Hyperliquid and typically every 8 hours elsewhere. Enter the rate per interval together with the interval length, and the holding time in hours. The table above shows funding turning from a rounding error into the largest line over a week.

Real rates change every interval, so the figure is an estimate from a constant rate. For current rates across venues, see fundingrates.app.

FAQ

How do I calculate total trading cost on a perp?

Add the entry fee, the exit fee, any builder fee, slippage on both fills and funding over your holding time. Each is a rate times notional. Dividing the sum by notional gives the percent move you need to break even.

Why is cost as a percent of margin so much larger?

Fees, slippage and funding are charged on notional, while margin is notional divided by leverage. At 10x the same dollars are ten times larger as a percent of margin.

What is a builder fee?

An extra fee a frontend adds on each fill. On Hyperliquid perps the protocol limit is 0.1% of notional per fill. It comes on top of the exchange fee.

How much slippage should I enter?

Estimate it from the order book depth for your size. Liquid majors with small orders can be a basis point or two per side; thin markets and large orders can be much more. Test with a small order if unsure.

Does a short pay funding?

When the rate is positive the short receives it, so it reduces the cost and can move the break-even into profit. When the rate is negative the short pays.

Where is the Hyperliquid fee schedule?

The preset uses the base tier. For volume tiers, staking discounts and referral, use the Hyperliquid calculator and enter its taker and maker rates here.
