How Bybit calculates liquidation
Bybit's isolated long formula is LP = [E × S − E × S ÷ L − extra margin ÷ (1 − taker fee) − MM deduction] ÷ (S − S × MMR), and the short formula mirrors it with the signs flipped, where E is entry, S size and L leverage. Maintenance margin is position value × MMR − MM deduction for the risk-limit tier, and liquidation is triggered by the Mark Price.

Worked example: BTC on Bybit
Four BTC positions run through Bybit's formula with the tier that matches each size. The large position lands in a higher tier, so its maintenance margin rate is higher and its leverage is capped at that tier's maximum.
| Position (BTC) | Margin | Tier MMR | Bybit formula | Distance | Calculator above |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Long $10,000 at 20x | $500.00 | 0.330% | $77,204.78 | 4.69% | $77,217.30 |
| Short $10,000 at 20x | $500.00 | 0.330% | $84,770.26 | 4.65% | $84,782.70 |

Bybit maintenance-margin tiers (BTC, ETH, SOL)

What this calculator leaves out
Extra margin you add to the position, cross and portfolio margin in the Unified Trading Account, and the estimated closing fee Bybit folds into the maintenance requirement. The tier is picked from the entry position value. Funding is entered by hand (positive rates are paid by longs). Numbers are estimates for planning, not Bybit's own figures; your position page on Bybit is the reference.
Bybit futures calculator FAQ
How is the liquidation price calculated on Bybit?
Bybit's isolated long formula is LP = [E × S − E × S ÷ L − extra margin ÷ (1 − taker fee) − MM deduction] ÷ (S − S × MMR), and the short formula mirrors it with the signs flipped, where E is entry, S size and L leverage. Maintenance margin is position value × MMR − MM deduction for the risk-limit tier, and liquidation is triggered by the Mark Price. Example: a $10,000 BTC long at 20x from $81,000 has $500.00 of margin, falls in tier 1 (MMR 0.330%) and liquidates near $77,204.78, 4.69% below entry.
What is the maximum leverage on Bybit BTC futures?
The tier snapshot (fetched 2026-10-23 13:15 UTC) gives 150x for BTCUSDT up to $300,000 of position value; larger positions move to higher tiers with lower caps, shown in the tier table. Leverage caps change, so check the Bybit trading rules before you trade.
Which Bybit fee does this calculator use?
It prefills 0.055% per side, the base-tier taker rate for BTCUSDT (maker 0.02%). On a $10,000 position that is $11.00 to open and close with market orders. Change the fee field to your own VIP or maker rate.
Why does Bybit show a different liquidation price from this calculator?
Extra margin you add to the position, cross and portfolio margin in the Unified Trading Account, and the estimated closing fee Bybit folds into the maintenance requirement. The tier is picked from the entry position value. The calculator above also uses the generic formula with the tier MMR; the worked table shows how far that sits from Bybit's own formula. Liquidation is checked against the Mark Price, so the last traded price can pass your liquidation price without closing the position, or the other way round.
